Reiki

We offer a safe and inclusive space for our patients.

The word “Reiki” means “mysterious atmosphere, miraculous sign.” It comes from the Japanese words “rei,” meaning universal, and “ki,” meaning life energy.

Reiki is a type of energy healing. Energy can stagnate in the body where there has been physical injury or even emotional pain. In time, these energy blocks can cause illness.

Energy medicine aims to help the flow of energy by removing blocks. By improving the flow of energy around the body, this can promote relaxation, relieve pain, speed healing, and reduce other symptoms of illness.

What happens in a Reiki session?

Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit. Every human has a universal energy known as “Ki” (pronounced “Chi”/CH-EE) that permeates the body.

During a Reiki session, the recipient typically lies down fully clothed on a massage table or sits comfortably in a chair. The Reiki practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above the recipient's body, focusing on different areas known as energy centers or chakras.

The practitioner then channels the universal energy through their hands to the recipient, with the intention of promoting relaxation, stress reduction, and healing. The energy is believed to flow to where it is most needed in the recipient's body, helping to balance their energy and promote a sense of well-being.

The session is usually quiet, with soft music playing in the background, and may last anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes, depending on the practitioner and the recipient's needs. Some people experience sensations such as warmth, tingling, or deep relaxation during a Reiki session, while others may simply feel a sense of peace and calm.

After the session, the recipient is often encouraged to drink plenty of water and take some time to rest and relax, as the effects of Reiki can continue to work in the body for some time after the session has ended
